A full detail builds on both the maintenance and interior services and adds the exterior paint work neither of those cover on their own:

Regular washing removes loose surface dirt, but doesn't shift what's actually bonded to the clear coat — brake dust, tree sap, industrial fallout, and general road grime that builds up over months. Decontamination lifts that bonded layer so the paint is genuinely clean, not just rinsed. A sealant applied afterward gives the paint a protective layer that helps it resist the next few months of grime and makes future washes easier and more effective.

This is different from ceramic coating, which is a longer-lasting, more involved protective treatment quoted separately based on your paint's condition — worth considering if you're after that level of protection rather than a sealant.

Once or twice a year is a reasonable rhythm for most vehicles — enough to keep paint protected and looking its best without over-servicing a car that's otherwise kept up with regular maintenance cleans in between. Cars that spend a lot of time outdoors, get driven on dusty or unsealed roads regularly, or haven't had a proper clean in over a year benefit from a full detail sooner rather than waiting for the "usual" schedule.

Full detailing runs the same as any other mobile appointment — at your home or workplace, with access to a standard power outlet, an outdoor water tap, and enough space to work around the vehicle for the full appointment length.
